What is a Hair Transplant for Women?
A hair transplant for women aims to restore and enhance your hair by moving hair follicles from one part of the head to any area where it’s thinned or lost.
Women facing female baldness or hair thinning may not know that a hair transplant is an option. However, at The Treatment Rooms London, we offer hair transplants for women that help to address these problems.
We can use the FUE (follicular unit excision) and the FUT (follicular unit transplantation) methods in our hair transplants for women.
Many women prefer the FUT method as it does not involve shaving as much hair, making the recovery easier and regrowth period more bearable. We can also perform an unshaven hair transplant for women using the FUE or FUT technique, helping our female patients return to work quicker.
A hair transplant in women aims to restore the hairline and improve the hair’s thickness on the scalp. Our dedicated team will also explain the process and confirm which areas we’ll treat during your initial consultation.
Female Hair Transplant Before And After Examples
The Treatment Rooms London is an excellent choice for women in the UK looking for hair transplants. Our experienced surgeons can provide feminine, natural-looking results that restore and enhance your hair.
Our expertise sets us apart from other hair transplant clinics as we take a bespoke, personalised approach to women’s hair transplants and ensure we consider their needs.
Whether we advise using an FUT or FUE to save you shaving your hair or tailor your treatment around your specific type of hair, such as afro hair, our team can provide the dedicated support you need.
Hair transplants for black women
At The Treatment Rooms London, we can perform hair transplants on all hair types, including afro. Our hair transplants are suitable for black women suffering from hair loss or traction alopecia and offer excellent results.
However, the hair transplant procedure can be more complex. Afro hair curls to the root, making it more challenging to extract the hair follicles without damaging them. Our team understands this potential complication and will do everything possible to carefully remove the follicles and provide your desired results.
We usually recommend the FUT method for afro hair as the hair follicles are more straightforward to extract when taking scalp grafts, and it’s typically more successful. However, this method causes scarring and potentially keloids (thick scarring that can grow in size), which are more common in those of Afro-Carribean descent, so we may advise an FUE – especially if you already have keloids.
Our team will explain your options and tell you which method would be best suited to your needs.

Frontal hairline female hair transplant
A frontal hairline female hair transplant is an excellent option for women with significant hair loss – particularly around the hairline and parting or top of the head.
We’ll transplant hair follicles from the back or side of your head into the thinning areas. Once they have time to grow in this part of the scalp, a fuller appearance will form.
It’s typical to experience some tenderness and swelling for the first week or two, but this will gradually subside. After the first few weeks, the transplanted hairs will fall out and new hairs will begin to grow from the follicles.
Within four months, you should start to see new hairs growing. However, it can take up to 18 months to see the complete results of your hair transplant.
After your hair transplant, our team will give you all the aftercare information needed to support your recovery at home.
Transplants for women with alopecia
There are many different forms of alopecia. Some cause temporary hair loss (alopecia areata) while, for others, it can be permanent (androgenic alopecia).
At The Treatment Rooms London, we can offer hair transplants for women with androgenic alopecia. We understand how challenging this condition can be and how much of an impact it can have on your confidence and wellbeing.
Our team will ask about your alopecia and your hair goals during your consultation, to help work out whether a hair transplant is the right choice for you.
If you have significant alopecia with minimal remaining hair follicles, a hair transplant will be impossible. Similarly, if you have alopecia areata, your immune system could attack the transplanted hairs, causing the transplant to fail.Despite these potential problems, we’ll always discuss what we think could be your best option, while also providing you with information on other hair loss treatments you could explore.
