How Does a Hair Transplant Work For The Temples?

Temple hair restoration requires careful planning of the direction of the grafts; it must meet the existing hair at the right angle, or else it will appear misaligned and unnatural. 

There are 2 main techniques used to transplant hair into the temples:

1. Follicular Unit Excision (FUE): FUE is a meticulous technique where individual hair follicles are taken from a donor area (usually the back and sides of the scalp) and moved to the area that is thinning or receding.
   
   This method has become highly popular due to its less conspicuous scarring, natural-looking results, and short recovery time. 
   
2. Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT): FUT, also known as the strip method, involves removing a small strip of scalp from the back of the head, from which hair follicles are then extracted and transplanted to the desired areas.
   
   This technique can generate a large number of grafts in one session, making it beneficial for individuals with extensive hair loss. However, FUT does leave a linear scar at the donor site, which is one reason high-profile patients often prefer FUE for less visible scarring.
   
   While FUT is highly effective, it’s typically more suitable for cases requiring a larger number of grafts. If only looking to target specific areas such as the temples in a highly refined way, then FUE is appropriate. 

Using an implanter pen in FUE gives surgeons finer control over the depth, direction, and angle of each graft. This is a game changer when helping to blend new growth with the existing hair.
