International Trichology Congress 2019
The Treatment Rooms London is proud of Lead Hair Transplant Surgeon and Medical Director, Dr Fernando, who recently returned from the International Trichology Congress 2019. Dr Fernando was invited to speak about “When to refer for hair transplant surgery?”. This blogs explains more about the occasion.
The International Trichology Congress , is a gathering of hair loss professionals from the following backgrounds:
- Trichologists
- Dermatologists
- Scientists
- Hair Restoration Surgeons
- Product Makers
- Doctors
All professionals took part in topics and lectures that focussed on hair, hair growth, hair loss, hair loss treatments and hair transplant surgery.
Dr Fernando was asked to speak on behalf of the British Association of Hair Restoration Surgeons. The topic was around “When to refer for hair transplant surgery?”. Dr Fernando helped to explain the different pathways patients go through in their hair loss journey and at what stage they may benefit from a hair transplant.
Follicular Unit Excision (FUE hair transplants) or Follicular Unit Transplantation (FUT hair transplants) requires specific and detailed examination by Doctors and Surgeons before undergoing the procedure. This is why we encourage all patients to be seen in person before choosing to undergo any surgical procedure. Helping to educate fellow professionals and increase awareness around poor surgery and practices by clinics abroad and unlicensed means patients will ultimately benefit from better care.
There are many different ways patients can find a surgeon. At first all patients should check 2 things:
- Checking their surgeon is a GMC registered Doctor
- The clinic they operate it in is CQC licensed
Once a patient is sure of the above they can then search for a clinic using normal internet searches like Google, but also the British Association of Hair Restoration Surgery (BAHRS) which has a database of approved, accredited surgeons. The link below takes you to the BAHRS website.
