Rob Brydon, the beloved Welsh comedian and Gavin & Stacey star, has traded his receding hairline for a rejuvenated look, sparking rumours of having undergone a transformative hair transplant.
Celebrities have embraced hair transplants over the years, with the likes of Wayne Rooney, Mo Salah, Elon Musk, David Beckham and other celebrities giving their hairline fresh and youthful vibes.
Although most people know him as an actor and presenter, Brydon also has an impressive writing career and stage presence as an impressionist, radio host and singer.

His extensive work includes international travel and lengthy stints on film and television sets, all of which can take a toll on the body, mind and hairline.
Has Rob Brydon been open about having a hair transplant?
Rob Brydon has not yet opened up about having a hair transplant, however, he has joked about it when asked, stating, “For some time now my head has been feeling a lot warmer, but I was unable to put my finger on the reason why. I’d like to reassure any concerned readers that I won’t rest until I get to the root of this.”
Despite this lack of confirmation, photographic evidence suggests that he underwent hair restoration surgery to combat male pattern baldness, a common genetic cause of hair loss.
Read on to explore the tell-tale signs that make this the most likely treatment for his newly restored hairline.
When Did Brydon Have His Hair Transplant?
While Rob Brydon’s hair transplant date is unknown, close examination of his hairline over the years suggests that he likely had surgery between late 2008 and 2010. Our before-and-after assessment below clearly shows this. At that time, he would have been roughly 43-45 years old.
Rob Brydon Before and After Hair Transplant
In 2005, at the age of 40, when he was on the rise from his lead role in the BBC television mockumentary series, Marion and Geoff, Brydon is seen to experience early signs of hair loss in his temples, a classic area of genetic hair loss.
This is most commonly caused by the hormone dihydrotestosterone (DHT), which damages hair follicles and causes thinning characteristically in the hairline, temples and crown areas of the scalp.
In terms of Rob Brydon, he’s not alone, as up to 25% of men begin to experience some form of hair loss by the age of 21.

As we can see throughout his career, Brydon slowly began receding in the corners of his hairline, developing an “M-shaped” hairline, similar to a widow’s peak.
Based on his pre-surgery photos, our surgeons assessed Brydon’s hair loss as a score of 4 out of 7 on the Norwood Scale, which is a popular tool to grade how advanced hair loss is.
The following photo was taken in London, just before the BAFTA Awards in 2008.

Hair transplant surgery is not only for the rich and famous, but rather for those struggling with their hair loss.

After 2010, at the age of 46, Rob Brydon’s hairline took a turn for the better, and photos show a dramatic difference in density. In the latest picture, we can see the frontal hairline and temple recession in the corners restored to a fuller and more youthful look, with thickness restored throughout the top of the scalp.
Hair restoration surgery can be life-changing, and Brydon’s case is no exception. For those who have undergone a hair transplant, a big area that patients find most beneficial is improved confidence, as well as improved wellbeing in social situations, easier styling routines and hair that they can enjoy and work with as they wish.
Has Rob Brydon Had a Hair Transplant and Why?
Although Brydon has not been open about having a hair transplant, given the evidence presented in this article, our experienced surgeons believe that the prominent actor-cum-comedian had a hair transplant to restore his hairline recession and thinning.
While medication is a good first method to thicken up existing hair, this type of transformative restoration is unlikely to have occurred only by taking hair loss medication such as minoxidil and finasteride.
The choice to have a hair transplant is a personal one. Many individuals can conceal hair loss well up until a certain tipping point, after which they may want to consider more permanent options like a hair transplant.
In showbiz, appearance is important, and those in the public eye often opt for surgery due to public image pressure. A receding hairline can undermine on-screen confidence and career prospects.
How many Grafts did Rob Brydon have in his Hair Transplant?
Our award-winning surgeons estimate that as part of his hair transplant, Brydon could have had close to 1200 – 1500 grafts transplanted into his temples and frontal hairline, with each graft consisting of 2-4 hair follicles on average.
This type of temple recession would require a minimum of 200 single hair grafts to be placed into the frontal hairline and blend seamlessly with existing strands to create a natural-looking appearance.
Check out our gallery section to find more examples of other 1200-1500 graft hair transplants, for similar areas like the temples. Our Graft Calculator is also useful for seeing just how many grafts you might need to produce an aesthetic result.
What Type of Hair Transplant Did Rob Brydon Have?
There is limited evidence to suggest that Brydon shaved his hair for his hair transplant, and a longer cut would have allowed a more subtle and easily disguisable recovery.
Having looked through sequential years to assess his hair length, our team of Surgeons believes that he would have had what is commonly referred to as an unshaven hair transplant procedure. This technique better hides post-operative healing, which is ideal for public figures.
Follicular Unit Excision (FUE)
FUE is a meticulous technique which removes individual hair follicular units from the back and sides of the head (also known as the safe donor area) to an area of recession, like the hairline and temples. In each follicular unit, also known as a ‘graft’, there are 2-5 hairs on average.
The hair that is relocated is resistant to the balding process, and when transplanted, grows unhindered and potentially permanently.
This FUE method has become highly popular due to its minimal scarring, natural-looking results, and shorter recovery time. Most public figures opt for this method as it allows them to get back on screen and resume public appearances soon after their hair restoration procedures.
Further evidence to suggest that Brydon underwent an unshaven FUE hair transplant is his lack of a detectable donor area.
The FUE hair restoration procedure leaves minimal dot-like scarring on the back and sides of the head, due to the nature of individually removing grafts with a punch device less than a millimetre in diameter.
Follicular Unit Transplantation
A technique in which scarring can sometimes be more noticeable is the FUT “Follicular Unit Transplantation” technique, also known as ‘strip’ surgery.
FUT involves removing a strip of hair-covered skin from the safe donor area on the back and sides of the head and cutting this strip into individual hair grafts for transplantation into areas that need restoration.
The FUT method leaves a single, narrow linear scar in the donor area after the strip is removed and will not be visible if hair is kept longer than a Grade 3 and above, generally.
This image illustrates a second FUE surgery following an FUT surgery. In this second stage, hairs are transplanted over the FUT scar to better disguise it for an even more natural finish. This is entirely based on patient preference and is not a requirement of FUT surgery.
Where Did Rob Brydon Get His Hair Transplant?: Choosing a Surgeon-Led Clinic Matters
While Brydon keeps this information classified, he would have chosen a reputable clinic, as his results reflect surgeon-led precision.
While hair transplant is relatively risk-free and straightforward, having the surgical procedure done well and in a natural-looking way requires the surgical skills and artistry of experienced surgeons and a highly trained professional team of experts.
Looking at Brydon’s suspected hair transplant, the overall design of the hairline is conservative and age-appropriate, making for natural-looking hair growth. Further steps have also been taken to ensure his newly transplanted hair will look natural at the microscopic level.
Single hair grafts were placed at the very front of the hairline, making it appear soft and fluffy, in keeping with a natural hairline. When surgery is done poorly, larger grafts are often placed in the frontal hairline, leaving that person with a plug-like, harsh hairline like the machine hair sewn onto a doll.
The close attention to detail in hair directions suggests Brydon received quality service. It is not uncommon to see hair transplants where grafts stand up vertically, leaving a very unnatural appearance.
In Brydon’s hairline, there is a natural-looking angulation, suggesting that any work done would have used precision equipment to accurately control graft angulation. An example of such equipment is the use of implanter pens, a technique that Surgeons at The Treatment Rooms London specialise in.
As a leading hair transplant clinic in London, we have mastered the artistry and surgical skills required for quality hair restoration surgery.

Considerations for Transplanting Rob Brydon’s Hair
Hair Colour: Brydon’s dark hair required careful graft placement to avoid contrast and provide as much visual density as possible.
Repair Risk: Poor angulation would have created a “pluggy” look, which was avoided in Brydon’s case.
Our team of highly skilled surgeons pay particular attention to detail to ensure a natural-looking hair restoration experience and overall well-being after surgery.
